Goals of WOW: to introduce inner-city youth to the fun and wonders of outdoor recreation and to teach the importance of proteting the environment through a safe and controlled camping experience. Campers learn the value of understanding and respecting urban and wildland ecosystems as well as the following:
Each
campout concludes with the campers participating in a special community service
activity, such as tree planting or cleanup event to show their appreciation
and respect for their community and the outdoor world.
At the completion of their campout, all participants receive
Campers receive valuable information, maps, and resources about outdoor recreation opportunities and other environmental programs available in their area to encourage them to continue their experience. the next step after WOW is WOW II where campers have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their newly learned skills in a more "traditional" camp setting.
